What you’ll be doing...

The qualified candidate will join the VZ Wireline Core Network team and will be responsible for testing one of the largest backbone networks in the world. This includes creating and automating test plans and deployment MOPs (Methods Of Procedures) for the NG-PC (Next Generation Packet Core) and eNSE (Enhanced Network Services Edge) network architectures, along with supporting existing Public IP networks.

The candidate should be a network and automation subject matter expert who can drive Core Wireline Network architecture and features to the next generation, by reducing time-to-market for new features and bug fixes while maintaining or increasing network reliability. In addition to the new network architectures mentioned above, other initiatives include rollout and integration of C-Band and 5G, and decommissioning of older core networks such as PIP, XO, OTNGN and Public IP.

The candidate should be able to author and collaborate on technical requirements, high level and detailed designs, and other applicable engineering documents. These include end-to-end technical requirements for testing 400 GB interfaces, Segment Routing, MPLS Traffic Engineering, and VXLANs.

The candidate should also be able to support end-to-end organizational collaboration between different groups and business stakeholders to ensure seamless implementation and successful market launch of Verizon initiatives. The candidate will also be expected to stay abreast of new technologies that may offer Verizon significant technical and/or financial benefits now or in the future. They should also be able to work with vendors in preparation for platform deployment, support IT testing, in addition to internal network testing, and First Office Applications (FOAs) and subsequent network wide rollout.

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

• Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Six or more years of relevant work experience.
• Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

• Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering.
• Experience working with Core IP networks within the telecommunication industry
• Experience in routing protocols such as BGP (Border Gateway Protocol), QOS (Quality of Service), RSVP (Resource Reservation Protocol), LDP (Label Distribution Protocol), ISIS, Segment Routing), BGP-LS (Link State) and PCEP (Path Computation Element).
• Working experience with Junos, IOS, and TiMOS.
• Experience with network automation using Ansible, templating using Jinja, test automation using Robot, and programming in Python
• Experience using YANG models and MIBs, and managing network elements using gRPC, NETCONF, RESTCONF and SNMP
• Experience with revision control using Git, CI / CD using Jenkins and project management using Jira
• Experience with developing dashboards to track and display real - time information from a network
• Good interpersonal skills and a demonstrable history of collaborating with peers across organizational boundaries to deliver results, including oral and written communications skills
• A commitment to quality, self-motivation, and accountability to work assignments
• Experience working with service provider networks.
• Technical experience in designing complex solutions, aligning network resources, launching product/service successfully, and managing vendors.
• Experience with virtualization, such as VMware or VCP (Verizon Cloud Platform).
• Experience with developing dashboards to track and display real-time device information.
• AI and ML experience.
• Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.
