What you’ll be doing...

The Principal Engineer - Interconnect position will lead the regional design strategy for Microwave, lit, and dark fiber backhaul networks. This position will be responsible for the design of a reliable and cost effective mixed network architecture including SONET, Native Ethernet, Microwave, CWDM and DWDM transport. In addition to deep technical expertise, this role will need to understand network and project lifecycles, program management, and contract management. The Principal Engineer will be responsible for the forecasting and recalibration of the expense and capital budgets of the regional transport team. This position will be expected to be a peer mentor and to collaborate across inter-departmental and regional teams as well as the Territory and Headquarters level.

Where you’ll be working:

This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience designing, maintaining, and documenting network diagrams and layouts.
  • Familiar with Ethernet services and data networks.
  • Experience developing and implementing business process improvement.
  • Capacity and forecasting experience in fiber architectures.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A degree.
  • Ability to work on cross-functional teams, taking into consideration the goal of various internal customers.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and make sound technical judgments in a demanding environment.
  • Experience managing third-party vendor relationships and/or resources.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work with others without conflict and achieve goals.
  • Demonstrated excellent problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge in Wireless/Cellular/Telecom technologies.
  • Forward thinking and preparation for new technology introduction.
  • Clear and concise communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the following:
    • SONET Ring architectures
    • Native Ethernet Design
    • Fujitsu / Ciena / ALU Dark Fiber Transport Equipment
    • CWDM/DWDM Fiber Managing & Design Experience
    • Fiber Testing and Troubleshooting Experience
    • Hubbing and Switching concepts for SONET and MW.
    • Granite Database experience.
    • Outside Plant Route Mapping experience (FiberBase or equivalent)
