What you’ll be doing...

The primary purpose of this position is to proactively provide support for overall network performance and design with emphasis on 5G Small Cell solutions, across the NY Metro submarket. Candidates will need to be able to use a wide variety of tools to ensure optimal and reliable service for Verizon Wireless customers, as well as, constantly evaluate and improve performance trends and take action to investigate and resolve performance degradations.

The Engineer will also contribute to the RF Design of the regional cellular network and including but not limited to:

  • Search area issuance, candidate assessment, and approvals within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Redesign of mature network areas to maximize performance and minimize capacity constraints.
  • Performing Macro/Micro Cell Design including antenna selection and placement.
  • Partnering with System Performance to improve network performance for existing and emerging technologies.
  • Preparing timely FCC/FAA and FAS submissions.
  • Conducting data analysis of switch statistics and drive data by conducting drive testing for potential sites, new site integration, and system optimization.
  • Ability to use RF propagation and planning tools.
  • Conducting and overseeing field tests for potential sites.
  • Planning frequency assignments and identifying technical parameters for network growth.
  • Planning near term integration of new technologies for first applications in the network.
  • Identifying causes of RF interference and troubleshooting interference problems with system performance.
  • Contributing in the development of long term build plans.
  • Utilizing knowledge of CDMA, EVDO, LTE and microwave to contribute to network design.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to travel 25%of the time.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A degree in electrical engineering.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Experience in the cellular industry. Ideally, with network experience.
  • Experience with RF propagation tools and radio test equipment, like Ascm, DataPro, Spectrum Analyzers, Actix, Windcatcher, or RF Scanners.
  • Knowledge of intermodulation, distortion, interference detection, and mitigation techniques.
  • Knowledge of antenna characteristics or antenna system design and selection.
  • Knowledge of frequency planning constraints and requirements such as C/I, co and adjacent channel criteria.
  • Knowledge of LTE, VoLTE, Evdo, or CDMA.
