What you’ll be doing...

As a Senior Engineer in Network Operations, you’ll be responsible for implementation, maintenance and on-going support of the VoIP and Global Management firewalls in Verizon’s network. Your daily focus will be to maintain the operational performance of the production firewall environment, implement security policies to support the network, and perform upgrades as needed. You will work closely with the Planning and Engineering teams to ensure supportability and reliability of the VoIP and Global Management Firewalls across the production network, and ensure cybersecurity policies, procedures, and standards are adhered to without adverse effect to computer environments or to business operations. You will apply strong communication skills, team building, conflict management, and problem-solving skills. This role requires you to analyze business requirements, operational procedures, and technology resources to solve complex problems.

In this role you will:

  • Ensure operational performance of the production firewall environment.
  • Actively participate in Engineering and Planning activities to support both existing and new functionality as business requirements evolve.
  • Ensure cybersecurity policies, procedures, and standards are adhered to without adverse effect to computer environments or to business operations.
  • Manage and maintain third-party application software patch lifecycles according to compliance requirements and industry best practices.
  • Support a shared twenty four seven on-call schedule for off-hours support, plus off-hour support for scheduled maintenance activity.

Where you'll be working...

This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes both work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP networking, including firewalls, routers, Ethernet switching, load balancing, and BGP/OSPF protocols.
  • Expertise in firewall operation and firewall policy support. (Juniper Netscreen, Juniper SRX, Palo Alto, F5, Fortinet and Checkpoint).
  • Expertise in Network Security access and authentication principles.
  • Expertise with Wireshark, tcpdump, snoop or related packet capture technology.
  • Knowledge and practical experience utilizing UNIX/Linux systems for troubleshooting and support of network devices.
  • Experience in one or more scripting languages (Perl, Python, Shell, Ruby).

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, a technical discipline, or a related field.
  • Willingness to travel 25% of the time.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of partnering with business units and operational processing.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness with managing, driving, and executing multiple issues simultaneously.
  • Advanced ability to solve hardware, operating system, and application layer problems quickly and effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational, team management, project management, event coordination, and documentation skills.
